The VDMA (German Mechanical Engineering Industry Association) represents more than 3,100 mostly small and medium-sized companies in the capital goods industry. The VDMA's Additive Manufacturing Association offers its members from industry and research a comprehensive range of services in the field of industrial 3D printing technology. The cross-industry platform helps potential users and development partners to meet and work together. The Executive Board has now been extended to include new members. Christoph Hauck, managing director of toolcraft, has been unanimously appointed Chairman by the members of the Executive Board.
While 3D plastic printing technology is already, found in private households, the use of additive manufacturing to process metal remains in the hands of innovative industrial companies. These are gradually driving forward the industrialisation of the production method. Machinery manufacturers are also increasing their efforts to step up automation in this field in order to make the process and the reworking of parts even more efficient. "The VDMA AM intends to join in with this and is working to create the conditions needed to further industrialise the process," says Christoph Hauck. Part of this is the introduction of uniform standards.
The first objective that the extended Executive Board has set itself is to further the meaningful industrialisation of additive manufacturing. Besides simply targeting machinery manufacturers and users, it is primarily aiming to help integrate the process into the education system.
